How the auto-grading works

Every quiz you share is packed into the link itself, compressed and encoded after the #. When a student opens it, their browser rebuilds the quiz, runs the timer and grades the answers on the spot. Nothing is uploaded to a server, which is why neither of you needs an account.

  • Multiple choice and true/false are marked against the option you picked as correct, even when options are shuffled.
  • Short answer ignores capitals, accents and punctuation, accepts any alternative you list (separate them with semicolons) and can forgive a single-letter slip in words of five letters or more, so photosynthesys still earns the mark.
  • Number questions accept anything within the ± tolerance you set, useful for measured or rounded answers.
  • Open response is collected for you to read but never scored automatically.

Timers that actually stop the clock

Set a time limit from 2 to 90 minutes. The countdown sits in a bar at the top of the student's screen, turns orange for the final minute, and submits whatever has been answered when it hits zero. The timer is based on the clock time the quiz started, so switching tabs doesn't pause it.

From scores to "what do I reteach?"

After submitting, each student sees a short result code. Ask the class to paste it into your LMS comment box, a shared doc or a chat. Paste the whole lot into My quizzes and QuizCraft builds a gradebook plus an item report: the share of students who got each question right, whether your stronger students did better on it than weaker ones, and which wrong option pulled the most students. The item analysis guide explains how to read those numbers.

Questions teachers ask

Is QuizCraft really free?
Yes. There is no paid tier, no question limit and no student limit. Quizzes run in the browser, so there are no server costs per student to pass on.
Do students need an account or an app?
No. They open the link in any modern browser, type their name and start. It works on Chromebooks, iPads, laptops and phones.
Where are my quizzes stored?
In your own browser (localStorage) on the device you made them on. The link you share contains the full quiz, so keep a copy of the link or use the Download backup button in My quizzes if you switch computers.
Can students see the answers by looking at the link?
The quiz, including the answer key, is inside the link in compressed form. It is not readable at a glance, but a determined student with developer tools could decode it. Use QuizCraft for practice, homework and low-stakes checks rather than high-stakes exams.
How do I get the results back?
Each student gets a result code after submitting. Collect the codes any way you like and paste them all at once into My quizzes. It recognises every code in the pasted text and ignores everything else.
Can I print the quiz instead?
Yes. The printable test maker lays out your current quiz with bubbles for answers and prints a separate answer key.
