What is an exit ticket?
An exit ticket (also called an exit slip) is a short formative assessment given at the end of a lesson. Students answer a few questions about what was just taught, and the teacher sorts the responses to decide what happens next: move on, reteach to a small group, or revisit with the whole class. It takes three to five minutes and is one of the cheapest ways to find out whether the lesson landed.
A simple three-question structure
- One core-skill question that every student should get right if the lesson worked. Make it auto-graded so you can sort instantly.
- One slightly harder application that shows who is ready for more.
- One reflection prompt (an open response): "What's one thing that is still confusing?" or "Rate your confidence from 1 to 4 and say why."

Sorting the responses in two minutes
Paste the students' result codes into My quizzes. The gradebook groups the class at a glance: full marks (ready to move on), core right but stretch wrong (practice), core wrong (reteach tomorrow).
